About urethral syndrome

Here is a definition of urethral syndrome from Wikipedia:

Urethral syndrome is defined as symptoms suggestive of a lower urinary tract infection but in the absence of significant bacteruria with a conventional pathogen.[1] There are other non-infective causes that should be considered such as trauma, allergies, and anatomical features like diverticula and post surgical scarring.

My own experience with urethral syndrome over the past 30 years is an occasional burning pain in the urethra that ranges from very mild (just a tingling) to debilitatiing (unable to stand or think clearly because of overwhelming pain), and comes and goes for no obvious reason (until now with the understanding of urinary pH).

The term 'urethral syndrome' is not used by all health practitioners - other terms include non-specific urethritis, chronic urethritis, recurrent cystitis, frequency-dysuria syndrome.

Note that urethral syndrome has similar symptoms as cystitis and urethritis - an infection in the bladder or urethra which requires antibiotics for treatment
